Strong, contrasting colours are the high cards to play in a painting. I use them very carefully and deliberately for the strongest effect.
Although they are not usually thought of as winter birds, I chose a kingfisher for this painting. Kingfishers can often be seen in the snow, providing there is some open running water in winter where they can fish.
