Like most people, I enjoy waterfalls. One can sit and watch them endlessly. As with fire, they flash into changing patterns that become almost hypnotic. If you carefully study the shifting movements, you will find an organization to the moving forms. The physics of the rocks and water acted upon by gravity create sculptures that are both opaque and transparent. As an artist, I find this fascinating. I tried to convey the feeling of motion which a camera usually cannot capture. It is a treat to sit, study and paint a waterfall.
This particular waterfall is a few yards away from a log cabin we have built in the north woods. It is a tranquil spot with only the sound of water and birds. The smells are the moist and earthy aromas of the forest and of splashing water.
Although dippers do not occur in our area, I put it in this picture because dippers are almost the spirit of little woodland rivers and streams. They are completely at home in, around and under the waterfalls. They dash into areas where one would expect them to be swept to their deaths in search of insect larvae.
