Black Turnstone Flock

Flocks of black turnstones spend the winter near our home in British Columbia. Sitting on the rocks, they are very camouflaged but when they take wing, they flash and twinkle, turning in an airborne corps de ballet as if on signal. The perceptive birder may spot a surfbird in the flock.
