The baby cottontail has left his nest. He was born about a month ago, blind, pink and thumb-size. His mother had made a nest of rootlets, grasses and down from her own chest. The four to seven babies are covered with a quilt of these materials when the mother leaves the nest, making a perfect protection and camouflage.
