Morning Calm – Pintails
(scroll down for description)
24” x 48”, acrylic, 1999

One of my favourite activities is travelling on water, preferably slowly and quietly, by canoe would be best. If the water is calm one has a disembodied feeling - floating, yet moving. What fascinates me is the enhanced sense of three dimensions as one watches closer objects moving against the various layers of the background. I can gaze on this endlessly, especially if when moving through nature.

Unlike most people, my taste turns to mist. Perhaps this is because of the increased illusion of depth and atmosphere. This scene shows a simple, quiet moment, unspectacular and ordinary but magical in its own way. I emphasized the tranquility by adding a single male pintail, floating and dozing.
